Your time is coming soon, this September to be exact. Gather
your gear, notify your next of kin, and get ready to Meet Your
Maker.
Boasting a spectacular alpine environment, 90% single track,
world-renowned Whistler trails, and a beer garden, 5 Peaks
Adventures had me hook, line and sinker. Little did they know, they
already had me at hello at the first glimpse of their Meet Your
Maker website, the stunning photo of snow-capped mountains gracing
the top of the page and touting, "Run to heaven… and back," a grand
introduction to their inaugural Meet Your Maker 50 Mile Trail Ultra
and Relay debuting Sept. 1-2, in Whistler BC.
"We've been racing in Whistler for the past 12 years with our 5
Peaks events, have a great relationship with the municipality and
the mountain, and have had this idea on the backburner since 2004,
I am so thrilled to be able to finally give it legs and get it off
the ground," says Kathryn Stanton, 5 Peaks Adventures
Owner/National Race Director. "I truly believe this event has the
makings to become an iconic destination race."
5 Peaks does indeed set the bar high, holding nothing back with
this inaugural race as they roll out a fun-filled event expo
scheduled to run Friday through Sunday, complete with a health
expo, beer garden, great food, and live entertainment. Kathryn
avows, "This race will be unlike any other with an amazing course,
an impeccably-marked route, first class aid stations, awesome pre-
and post-race meals, great souvenirs, awards and prizes, and the
biggest and best after-party ever.. the last big party of the
summer! Grab some friends, be a part of history!!!"
A historic race it will be! Mother Nature's artistry will blow
your mind along this course, a grateful distraction as you
challenge yourself to the core with an estimated 14,000' total
ascent. Persevering will bring a sweet reward at approximately the
26-mile mark. As the legs are feeling like dead weights and the
proverbial wall is taunting all to hit it one more time, racers
will literally get a lift - they'll be whisked away on the
world record-breaking Peak 2 Peak Gondola Crossing. This 4.4k
scenic gondola ride covers the distance between Whistler and
Blackcomb mountains, 436 metres above the valley floor. Time to
relax on the 11-minute ride, refuel, and take in the sights.
Choose to run your own race on these pristine mountain trails or
gather up some pals and make it a relay with a team of up to 7
runners. Prize money will be awarded to the top 3 solo finishers
with custom trophies and awards going to the top 3 team finishers.
Souvenir technical shirts and custom finisher medals are provided
for all finishers. Sponsors, to name a few, include Salomon, Suunto
and Clif Bar.
